president obama consoled the nation at an interfaith service if boston's cathedral of the holy cross. >> our prayers are with the injured. so many wounded, some gravely. from their beds, some are surely watching us gather here today. and if you are, know this, as you begin this long journey of recovery, your city is with you. your commonwealth is with you. your country is with you. we will all be with you as you learn to stand and walk and yes, run again, of that i have no doubt. you will again. (applause) >> rose: a little after 5 p.m. this evening at a press conference the fbi released images andillance video of two potential suspects. the picture showed two young men carrying backpacks near the sites of the explosion. fbi special agent richard deslauriers asked for the public's help to identify the suspects. >> after a detailed analysis of photo video and other evidence, we are releasing photos of these two suspects, identified as suspect one and suspect two. they appeared to be associated. suspect one is wearing a dark hat. suspect two is wearing a white hat. suspect two set down a backp
is the fbi looking at right now? what's most important from your standpoint? >> well, obama met with his security advisers today, and their biggest concern is that it is a foreign threat, that it's not too lone wolfs in the united states that took this under their own, just decided to do it themselves. so what the fbi will be looking at is phone records, e-mail records. they'll be looking at any communications, travel records that had to do with these guys going back and possibly training at a camp in northern africa. the most important thing is the communication records, if they've made phone calls, connecting them to other people that may have been involved in encouraging this act or training them to do this particular act, that's what the fbi's going to be looking for going forward. >> and we don't have anymore information on that right now. we know, though, that the older brother, who is dead, did leave the country for six months. he's been living in america since 2007, but left for six months, and investigators are trying to zero in on whether or not he got terrorism training. are y
ameritrade. >>> here's what's happening. president obama will be traveling to texas later this week where he will attend a memorial service from last week's explosion at a fertilizer plant that left 14 people dead and 200 injured. world health officials say there is no evidence that the new bird flu strain in china is spreading from person to person. the latest figures show 105 people are sick, 21 have died. gas prices are down. up 11 cents per gallon according to the survey. back to "hardball." >>> welcome back to "hardball." the tsarnaev brothers, still an unfolding puzzle for all of us. what exactly motivated these two brothers? we're learning more every day. one brother in particular, tamerlan, became increasingly radicalized over the last several years. we know now that the russian government expressed concern about him back in 2011. they warned the fbi he was a follower of radical islam. the fbi's investigation never turned up anything significant. tsarnaev traveled to the troubled region of dagestan for six months. it's where his parents live. it's a hub of jihadist recruitment genera
that there had been, in fact, explosions at the white house and that barack obama was injured in those explosions. that fake and erroneous tweet went out at about 1:07 p.m. and shortly thereafter, at about 1:16 p.m., the associated press reporter at the white house had the chance to make a little news of her own. that's because the white house briefing was coincidentally scheduled at that time and the associated press traditionally gets to ask the first question. in this case, it was ap reporter julie pace who had a chance to clear up some of the confusion arou surrounding this incident. >> i want to say at the top that it appears as though ap's twitter account has been hacked, so anything that was just sent out about any incident at the white house is absolutely false and we'll be putting out something today shortly to clarify if that hasn't happened already. >> and the president is fine. i was just with him. >> and that is not something you see every day. the white house press secretary having to reassure reporters in the briefing room that the president is fine. but, clearly, here, guys, one o
. and with all the challenges our veterans face, i was pleased that president obama's budget request included a proposal for new transition assistance program that would help our veterans adjust to civilian life. i won't ask you now because i know there are many people who have questions, but i would hope that you could share with us the key components of the new transition assistance program and if you could describe how educational opportunities will be incorporated, what changes will be made to strengthen job search skills and job placement? my time may be up, so if you can just -- i don't know, mr. chairman, if you'd like secretary hagel just to share that. it's a concern for so many of us in our communities. >> if i might just make a very brief response, mr. chairman, if it's appropriate. and then i will provide details for the record for all the members. this is what i would say. hen i came to this job and i said very clearly i had priorities like anyone who is taking on a new job. certainly my first priority is the defense of this country and that's what the president and the congress
